Is Twitter Actually Good For Anything?

This isn't a poll, exactly, but a request for clarification. I have not found Twitter useful at all yet. I'm dying to hear if anybody else has. Please comment.

How to Pull Yourself Together after a Layoff

I am learning this myself. Interestingly, I am prone to experiencing too much stress normally, yet I have not stressed out much over the months that have passed since the Reduction In Force event hit me. It is important not to stress out, of course, not to succumb to excessive anxiety, because that such anxiety will paralyze you.

I am trying to figure out what I am doing right, for the benefit of humanity. I think that fatalism has arisen in me. Whatever will happen, whether I run out of unemployment, lose my house, my credit, everything, will happen regardless of my worry. My worry won't change a thing, except to get in the way of my potential success. That may be obvious. It's not an intellectual insight, it is something that has taken over my being. The thing I used to worry about when I was working has happened. The Worst Thing in the World. The End of the World as We Know It. Room 110. It's happened. Perhaps that is the thing: having passed through the singularity, the black hole, what more is there to scare me?

Plentyoffish.com

I was browsing a list of internet millionaires, and among the usual suspects (such as the CEO and founder of Facebook,) was the guy who's responsible for plentyoffish.com. When my wife and I were separated both of us used this site, but my impression of the site was that it was wholly amateur. It was a piece of crap aesthetically. I suppose it worked, but aren't we in the era of pretty interfaces? Look at Vista.

Let's just say that even though I used that site for a spell, I was surprised to see the founder on the list of internet millionaires. The decline of Western civilization is upon us.

In the Midst of Depression, We Are Surrounded by Mania

It's 2009; where is my 4 day work week?

We've been gypped Our 4 day work week has not arrived on schedule. I thought that was supposed to be one of the beautiful things progress would bring. Given the appalling unemployment numbers, maybe it is time for our allegedly progressive ruling party to consider this one. Below are some of the advantages of shortening the work week.

1. We the proles will have more time to pursue the meaning of life.
2. Our days on the job will be more productive.
3. Companies will need to hire more people, forcing down unemployment and forcing up the price of labor.
4. We can skip getting the Mondays.

It's a win-win situation. It's doubtful that the pseudo-progressives in power in the US will even want such a thing. Let's face it, change isn't really coming. Meet the new boss, worse than the old one, etc.

Maybe we can start a movement though.

Peace out.
